Amazon’s new Smart Commerce Platform: What it means for Ecommerce Businesses?
Amazon is making it easier for Indian businesses to get on board with their Smart Commerce program. The new initiative will allow all local retailers, not just large chains like Big B or Ed Packaging Co., jumpstart digital shopping by converting themselves into Amazon dukaans—a term referring specifically these days towards any place where you can buy online from physical stores that don’t have an internet presence alone.
The ease of use and low costs make it an attractive option for small businesses eager to expand their reach.
In order to make digital stores more profitable, the company is working towards improving India’s connectivity so that they can earn a profit with assistance from their large platform.

How to open a digital store on Amazon? Get started by following these steps
- Interested sellers or vendors need to log into Amazon Seller Central or Amazon Vendor Central account by filling in all the required details.
- Then click on the icon that reads Storefront from the main navigation bar.
- The website will ask you to click on create store option.
- Choose your brand’s name from the pop-up box.
- Click on the ok or confirm button to create a store.
The company’s annual summit, Amazon SMBHAV was attended by Global Senior Vice President and Country Head of India Amit Agarwal who said they are so humbled that in only six months the program has grown to over 1.5 lakh stores across country! Inspired by this momentum he announced plans for an even larger expansion with hopes set on expanding beyond just pandering products like food or clothing but also including daily necessities such as soap which would give people more freedom when traveling abroad. The country’s prime minister has said that any store, regardless of size or location can take advantage Amazon Prime Now. He also announced plans to expand this service into nearly every nook and cranny within the UK by 2020!

Meanwhile, The Amazon India Smart Commerce program will release its first set of solutions very soon and they plan to provide a vital tool for local businesses in order help them compete with international retailers who operate at lower costs due their proximity.
